From KL to BL: de la ville a la jungle

br />Détour par Kuala Lumpur, ou l’on visite des ... tours bien sur, les célèbres Petronas. La tête dans les nuages au 49eme étage, nous ne perdons pas de vue notre objectif plus terre a terre: l’achat d’un netbook pour l’anniversaire d’Alexis. Nos déambulations dans les centres commerciaux sont ponctuées de pauses repas – tout est délicieux ici! Seul regret pour Alexis, la bière est très chère.
Apres ces quelques jours très citadins, nous sommes ravis de nous envoler pour de nouvelles aventures plus ‘nature’ a Sumatra. Petite complication a l’aéroport lorsque nous réalisons que nous ne pouvons pas embarquer comme prévu pour Banda Aceh; c’est en effet l’un des rares points d’entrée sur Sumatra qui ne délivre pas de visa a l’arrivée. Pares de notre flegme habituel, héritage de toutes ces années en territoire anglais, nous acceptons l’offre d’Air Asia de nous envoler vers Medan. Et voila comment on se retrouve a troquer la plage de Pulau Weh pour un trek dans la jungle a Bukit Lawan!
Nous ne perdons pas au change: le trek est une formidable expérience, et nous avons la chance de voir une douzaine d’orangs outan des le 1er jour, ce qui est assez extraordinaire. Alexis a même failli rester dans la jungle avec Jackie, un orang outan semi sauvage, mais particulièrement affectueuse.

Bukit Lawang is one of only 2 places where you can meet Orang-utan in their natural environment – the other being Borneo. It’s a charming village set alongside the jungle, by the river. A few years ago a flooding destroyed many habitations and many lives. Despite this tragedy, or maybe also as a consequence of it, people here seem determined to be happy, and we cannot but be impressed by their smart, joyful philosophy. It’s a pleasure to spend time in the village, chatting with the locals, sharing jokes, playing games, and all the while watching for the semi-wild orang-utan who sometimes venture as far as the riverbank looking for fruit.
We decide to take a 2 day trek to see ‘the real thing’, wild orang-utans in their environment. The 6 hours challenging walk through the jungle is a very rewarding one as we see about a dozen of animals along the way. The semi wild come close to us, some slightly aggressive, others very friendly, most of them just shy and ready to jump back to the lianas if they sense any danger. The wild orang-utans stay well clear of us, observing us curiously from the safety of high trees. Altogether, a fantastic experience, with a fun night at the camp in the company of our local guides and a few fellow travellers, eating curries, drinking beer and playing ‘laughing’ and ‘thinking’ games alternatively: it’s back to childhood and summer camps!
